Address & Mortality Results

This article discusses how to understand your Address & Mortality results with examples. The below article is split into four sections to discuss how to read your results and examples:

1) Overall Results;

2) Mortality Results;

3) Address Results;

4) What to do if the result refers.

Section 1: Overall Results

For Address & Mortality you will be presented with one of two overall results:

ResultDescription
Pass
We have been able to confirm that there is evidence from the UK Credit Database and UK Electoral Roll that the individual lives at the address in question.
Pending
We have not been able to confirm that the individual lives at the address in question.

Our Address & Mortality checks will check the individuals name, address & date of birth against the UK Credit Reference Agency, UK Credit Databases and UK Electoral Roll sources to confirm their address. The individuals name & address will also be checked against the UK Deceased Person's Record.

To pass the check the individual's name and date of birth has to be found at the address (with a match on the electoral roll or the credit database) and cannot be flagged.

If the overall result appears as 'Pending', you will be presented with the areas that did not match against the UK Credit Database & Electoral Register. For these cases you will need to carry out your own due diligence to confirm the individual's address as we have been unable to verify this.

Your results will then be split into two areas:

    1. Mortality Check

    2. Address Check

Section 2: Mortality Results

For the Mortality check, you will be presented with a green tick meaning that the individual has not been registered on the UK Deceased Persons Database at that address, as can be seen below. Or you will be presented with a red exclamation mark, which means evidence has been found on the UK Deceased Persons Database that the individual is deceased.

Section 3: Address Results

As with the Mortality results, for the Address results, you will be presented with a list of sources and the checks run against them, for example 'Forename valid/matched' on the Credit Database. These operate in a traffic list system:

  • Green means the source has been matched for the individual
  • Red means the source has not been matched for the individual
  • Orange means the source has found information that needs to be reviewed
  • Grey means the source has not found any data to run against, for example if the address is not valid.

Please see examples of results you may see below:

Example 1

In the example below, the individuals full name could be matched to the address by both the Electoral Register and Credit Database. The date of birth also has been able to be matched via the Credit Database leading to an overall pass in the result.

Example 2

In the example below, the individuals last name was able to be matched against the Electoral Roll and Credit Database but the individuals first name has flagged due to only a partial forename match. In this case, it was because the individual's middle name was included in their forename. This has led to an overall pending of the result.

Example 3

In the example below, all the sources are greyed out, which means the address run is not a real address or it is an overseas address (as our Address & Mortality check is for UK addresses only).

Example 4

In the example below, whilst there are some passed matches, the overall result has referred as both the Electoral Register & Credit Database suggest the individual no longer lives at the address in question.

Section 4: What to do if the result refers?

Overriding the result: If the address has referred, you are able to override the result to a pass. You can do this by clicking the 'Refer' button in the top right hand corner of the screen as can be seen below. When overriding the status, you will always have to write a comment, this is so there is a record of the change of status. If you are unsure what to write in the comment section, please speak to your manager. This note will appear within the portal and also on the PDF.

Rerunning the check: If the Address & Mortality Check has referred for a reason such as the individuals name, DOB or address was incorrect, you are able to manually rerun the Address & Mortality Check without sending anything to your client. To do this, please review the steps outlined here.

More Due Diligence needed: Alternatively, if you do not wish to run another check, you will need to do your own due diligence to confirm your clients Address & Mortality such as obtaining a proof of address document. You can add extra documents to your clients profile as evidence which will appear on the PDF. To do this please add evidence via the 'Quick Actions Menu' below.
